Social Whiz Kids.com This sister site is the place to get information about social skills groups and camps for children.

ADD Resources This site has a ton of information and resources about ADHD. There is a professional directory as well as information about conferences and meetings in the Washington area. So much information, you will want to bookmark it so you can read it all.

The Nurtured Heart Approach Website This site a wonderful behavior modification system that really works. I also highly recommend the book Transforming the Difficult Child by Howard Glasser and Jennifer Easley

The Amen Clinic - This site is full of information about how various types of brains function. There is a wealth of clinical information and research into using SPECT (a type of brain scan) to diagnose ADHD, depression and a myriad of other mental health issues. They also discuss many treatment options. I highly recommend Dr. Amen's book Healing ADD: The Breakthrough Program That Allows You to See and heal the 6 Types of ADD.

Medline Plus This is a National Institute of health site which is great for researching medications and diagnoses. With all the "off label" ways that medications are prescribed, it can be difficult to keep up with the latest. This site will give you the details about the medication along with side effects and other useful information in plain English.

Myths about ADHD A page sponsored by CHADD a helpful link to send to people who tell you that ADHD is bad parenting or over diagnosed or what have you. There is a ton of other information at this site as well regarding dealing with schools, etc.

Famous Folks with ADHD A list of actors, artists, inventors, etc. who have been diagnosed or appear to have features of ADD/ADHD.

Sensory Integration or Processing Disorder (SPD) Many diagnosed with ADHD also have sensory processing issues. This site describes the various types of SPDs and the types of treatment options available.

ADD Success Stories: A Guide to Fulfillment for Families With Attention Deficit-Disorder: Maps, Guidebooks, and Travelogues for Hunters in this Farmer's World by Thom Hartmann

In this book Thom Hartmann briefly outlines his theory that those with ADHD are the hunters of days gone by while those without are farmers. This positive way to view ADHD is a breath of fresh air and inspired much the work that we do. Even more helpful is all the great tips and ideas for managing the symptoms of ADHD now. Highly recommended.

Driven to Distraction: Recognizing and Coping with Attention Deficit Disorder from Childhood Through Adulthood. by Edward M. Hallowell and John J. Ratey

A classic text on ADHD which describes various types, diagnostic tests and treatment options written by a Psychiatrist diagnosed with ADHD himself. Easy to read and extremely informative especially for adults who think they may have ADHD and want to learn more.

The Explosive Child: A New Approach for Understanding and Parenting Easily Frustrated, Chronically Inflexible Children by Ross W. Greene

This can be a life changing book. Seriously, the approach in this book can help you to learn news ways to handle melt downs, defiance and arguing. I have personally found it to be a tremendous help in our home. The approach called Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) is very different from traditional parenting techniques, but it works wonders. Highly recommended.

Healing ADD: The Breakthrough Program that Allows You to See and Heal the 6 Types of ADD by Daniel G. Amen

An extremely informative book which describes 6 types of ADHD which have been identified through SPECT brain scans a method of diagnosis pioneered by Dr. Amen. A thorough description of the six types and the treatments for each including medication, nutrition, alternative treatment, biofeedback, and psychotherapy. Highly recommended.

The Highly Sensitive Child: Helping our children Thrive When the World Overwhelms Them by Elaine Aron

This book gives some great ideas for ways to help children who are highly sensitive and suffer from anxiety. Many of these ideas are helpful for children with Sensory Processing Disorder and ADHD as well.

The Out-of Sync Child: Recognizing and Coping with Sensory Processing Disorder, Revised Edition by Carol Stock Kranowitz

A must have book if you suspect Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) may be affecting your child. Contains descriptions and checklists for all of the types of SPD and gives some ideas for treatment at home. Also discusses the role of Occupational Therapists in treatment.

The Out-of-Sync Child has fun by Carol Stock Kranowitz

This books takes off where The Out-of-Sync Child ends. Lots of ideas for treating Sensory Processing Disorder at home. Kids will be having so much fun they won't know they are being treated!

Transforming the Difficult Child:The Nurtured Heart Approach by Howard Glasser and Jennifer Easley

This is an excellent parenting book for all kinds of parents and all kinds of kids. The author's explain not only how to do Behavior Modification, but why to do it. The stories used to explain the techniques help parents to truly understand why their kids behave the way they do and what to do about it. We use these techniques and teach these techniques to families. Highly recommended!

Your Defiant Child: Eight Steps to Better Behavior by Russell Barkley and Christine Benton

This is an excellent parenting book which teaches the basic concepts of behavior modification. Many great ideas for ways to cope with defiant behavior and rebuild the parent child relationship. Russell Barkley has written many books about ADHD and is considered one of the authorities on the subject.
